What is an Affinity Space?
An affinity space is a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where people with similar identities and lived experiences can come together to engage in open and honest dialogue, share experiences, challenges, celebrate successes, and be supported.
Who can attend an Affinity Space?
Short answer: anyone, but…
… affinity spaces are meant to be safe, supportive spaces for the specific community they are intended to serve. By attending any of our affinity spaces, you agree to hold space for the very real, very individualized (and sometimes traumatic) experiences of the individuals you are surrounded by. We firmly ask that you respect the space, and the human beings that occupy it.
If you don't share the specific identity and lived experience of an affinity space, a "brave space" might be the place for you. A “brave space” is a supportive environment where people can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and opinions, and engaging in difficult conversations about perspectives that may differ from their own. Brave spaces are inclusive of all people, regardless of their race, gender, ability, immigration status, or other factors.
